The Vellum Exchange

“Where secrets are traded, and knowledge rules all.”
The Vellum Exchange is Ebonreach’s neutral heart — a sprawling, gothic trade district where all five factions conduct business under an ancient pact. Every alley, stall, and vaulted hall is steeped in ink, secrets, and shadow. Knowledge is currency here, and information is traded with the same weight as relics, blood, or coin.
Atmosphere
Narrow cobblestone streets wind between towering gothic facades patched with centuries of repairs. Gas‑lit lanterns cast long, wavering shadows across faded posters and scorched stone. The air smells of parchment, ink, old leather, and the faint ozone of arcane residue. Merchants whisper beneath their breath, scribes scurry between archives, and masked brokers watch from balconies above.
Origin & Mythic History
The Exchange was built atop the ruins of an ancient scriptorium that once cataloged the arcane history of Ebonreach. When the factions rose to power, they forged a pact: the Exchange would remain neutral ground, a place where trade and diplomacy could occur without bloodshed. The pact is enforced by the Archivus Wardens — silent, hooded figures who appear whenever the peace is threatened.
Supernatural Identity
The Vellum Exchange is more than a marketplace — it is a living archive.
Ink stains shift subtly on old posters.
Whispers echo from sealed tomes.
Runes flicker across the cobblestones at dusk.
The district is saturated with centuries of recorded knowledge, and the very walls seem to remember every deal, betrayal, and secret ever spoken here.
