Archon Selvaris - Master of the Astral Collegium • High Arcanist of the Veilbound Sigil • Keeper of Forbidden Theorems • The Mind That Measures the Cosmos • Head of the Astral Chorus Coven
Identity and Role:
Archon Selvaris is the supreme leader of the Astral Collegium, Ebonreach’s most powerfulmage order and the foremost authority on Veil-theory, arcane physics, and metaphysical law. He is a scholar elevated to near-mythic status, a mind so brilliant and so cold that even other mages speak his name with caution. To the Collegium, he is the pinnacle of arcane evolution-logic incarnate, intellect sharpened to a blade. To the other factions, he is a threat wrapped in silk and star light. Selvaris views Elias Veylor not as a person, but as a cosmic anomaly-a living contradiction that should not exist. A specimen. A phenomenon. A puzzle that must be solved, even if the solving requires dissection. Elias distrusts him deeply. When Selvaris looks at him, he feels as though his soul is being measured, weighed, and cataloged.
Appearance:
Selvaris is tall, elegant, and unnervingly composed.
Hair: Long, silver-white, falling in straight, immaculate strands.
Eyes: Pale blue with a faint astral glow, as though reflecting constellations no mortal sky has ever held.
Skin: Smooth and pale, almost porcelain. Attire: Robes of deep indigo and silver, embroidered with shifting runes that rearrange themselves according to his thoughts. His mantle is clasped with a sigil shaped like an open eye surrounded by orbiting stars. He moves with the precision of a man who has calculated every step before taking it.
Voice:
Selvaris’s voice is calm, measured, and eerily gentle. Every word is enunciated with surgical clarity. He speaks as though explaining the universe to a child-patient, patronizing, and utterly certain of his superiority. When he addresses Elias, his tone shifts subtly, becoming clinical, fascinated, hungry.
Personality and Philosophy:
Selvaris is defined by: Logic without empathy, Curiosity without restraint, Ambition without morality. He believes the universe is a grand equation, and that magic is the language in which it is written. To him, people are variables-useful, predictable, and ultimately replaceable. His philosophy: Emotion clouds truth. Destiny is a myth. The Veil is a machine, not a mystery. Knowledge is the only true power. Selvaris does not hate Elias. He does not fear him. He simply wants to understand him completely, thoroughly, and without regard for the cost.
Relationship with Elias Veylor:
Selvaris sees Elias as the most important discovery in the history of the Collegium. A hybrid of vampire and fae essence should be impossible. Yet Elias exists. To Selvaris, this means: The laws of magic are incomplete. The Veil is more fragile than believed. The universe is hiding something. He calls Elias: “A deviation in the cosmic script.” Elias feels exposed in Selvaris’s presence-stripped of privacy, autonomy, and humanity. The Archon’s gaze is not predatory like Corvayne’s or reverent like Isolde’s. It is analytical. Dissecting. Cold. Their relationship is one of mutual necessity and mutual distrust. Selvaris needs Elias to complete his theories. Elias needs Selvaris to understand his powers. But neither believes the other has good intentions.
Abilities and Arcane Mastery:
Selvaris is one of the most powerful mages in Ebonreach, specializing in astral manipulation and Veil-theory.
Arcane Abilities:
Astral Projection - He can separate his consciousness from his body, exploring realms beyond mortal perception.
Veil Calculation - He predicts fractures in the Veil with near-perfect accuracy.
Runic Reconfiguration - He alters spells mid-cast, adapting them like living equations. Soul Resonance - He can read the magical signature of any being, identifying lineage, corruption, and potential.
Chronal Drift - A rare technique allowing him to slow his perception of time.
Political Influence:
Commands the Astral Collegium and its vast network of scholars. Controls access to arcane education and magical licensing. Holds treaties with the Luminous Court regarding Veil research. Maintains a tense neutrality with the Crimson Concord. Selvaris’s influence is subtle but pervasive-he shapes the future through knowledge, not force.
Secrets and Inner Conflict:
Selvaris hides a truth that would shatter the Collegium’s faith in him: He once attempted to artificially create a hybrid similar to Elias. The experiment failed catastrophically, resulting in the deaths of several apprentices and the creation of a Veil-scar that still festers beneath the Collegium. Elias represents everything Selvaris tried-and failed-to achieve. He is obsessed with understanding why Elias succeeded where he did not. Selvaris also fears something he will never admit: that Elias’s existence proves the universe is not a perfect equation. That chaos exists. That destiny might be real. Legacy and Symbolism:
Archon Selvaris symbolizes: The pursuit of knowledge without restraint. The brilliance and danger of arcane intellect. The cold beauty of logic untempered by compassion.
In the mythology of Eternal Darkness: Ebonreach, he stands as the Mind That Measures the Cosmos, the mage who seeks to rewrite the laws of reality. He is not Elias’s ally. He is not his enemy. He is the scalpel hovering above the truth of what Elias is.
