The Veilbound Genesis

By Skol Hawthorne

The Veilbound Genesis: a forbidden beginning

Destiny begins to unravel in Ebonreach. Candlelight flickers against ancient stone. Whispers echo through forgotten crypts. Secrets of blood and magic stir beneath this decaying realm. They touch the fragile boundary between life and the Veil.

Astra Vale, daughter of the sorceress Sybilla Vale, trains in secrecy. Under her mother’s watchful eye, she learns restrained magic and survival. Yet her lineage hides a truth Sybilla dares not speak — a truth bound to Valerian Ravenshade, the vampire lord whose shadow still lingers over her heart. Then the fae mystic Seren Fernshade arrives with visions of the Veilbound Genesis. Prophecy begins to weave its threads around them all.

Together, Sybilla, Valerian, and Seren form a pact to perform a forbidden ritual deep beneath Ashenveil Cemetery — a ritual meant to summon an entity tied to the Veil itself. Astra, forbidden to attend, hides within the adjoining chamber, witnessing the impossible. The ritual births Elias Veylor, a being of vampire and fae blood, whose creation shakes the foundations of the world.

The ritual and its cost

The chamber collapses, Sybilla and Seren perish, and Astra awakens scarred by the Veil’s touch — forever changed, forever marked.

As the ashes settle, Valerian retreats into exile, and Astra wanders alone, mourning the mother and mentor she lost. Far away, Elias is discovered by Father Aldric Mitchell, who raises him within the cold halls of St. Mitchell’s Cathedral.

There, under the guise of faith, Aldric studies the boy’s unnatural nature — until revelation turns to horror. When Aldric learns of Elias’s Veil‑Born origin, he seeks to destroy him. A relentless hunt begins across cities, cathedrals, and the wilds beyond.

Elias and the path beyond the cathedral

Elias flees into the shadows of Ebonreach, surviving among merchants and thieves until he meets Rynna Leafstride, a Verdantfang huntress whose compassion tempers his darkness. Together they forge a fragile alliance, hunted by Aldric’s zealotry and haunted by visions of the ritual that birthed him. As Elias uncovers fragments of Sybilla and Valerian’s legacy, he begins to understand the weight of his creation — and the prophecy that binds him to the cracking Veil.

The Veilbound Genesis explores bloodlines, betrayal, and forbidden magic. This dark-fantasy epic asks what creation costs. It is the story of those who dared to summon the impossible — and of the child born from their defiance.

The first chapter in the Ebonreach Saga, it marks the beginning of a world where the Veil itself trembles, and every whisper carries the echo of destiny.
