“Power in Absence.”
Clan Umbros — The Voidwalkers
Power in Absence.
Theme: Darkness, shadow teleportation
Core Fantasy: Vampires who step through darkness as if it were a doorway.
Origins — The Shadow That Chose a Host
Clan Umbros began with an impossible event: the merging of a vampire with a living shadow. The progenitor, Noxus the Unmoored, was a scholar‑warrior obsessed with the metaphysics of darkness. During an expedition into the forbidden cavern known as The Lightless Maw, he encountered a sentient shadow—an entity older than vampirism, older than death, older than night itself.
The entity did not attack. It merged. Noxus emerged transformed—half‑subsumed by darkness, his eyes hollow voids, his presence flickering like a dying flame. He could step into one shadow and emerge from another, dissolve into darkness, and command the void as if it were an extension of his will.
Those he embraced inherited fragments of this living shadow, becoming the first Voidwalkers.
The Void‑Touched Blood
Umbros possess a unique mutation called The Void‑Touched Blood, a fusion of vampiric vitae and primordial shadowstuff. Their bodies exist partially in the physical world and partially in the Umbral Veil, a dimension of living shadow.
- Dissolve into darkness
- Teleport through connected shadows
- Manipulate ambient darkness as a physical substance
- Cloak themselves in void‑silence
- Create shadow duplicates or afterimages
- Sense movement through darkness like ripples in water
This dual existence is both power and curse.
Culture — The Doctrine of the Unseen Path
Umbros culture is built on the belief that true power lies in what is hidden, not what is shown. Their philosophy, known as The Doctrine of the Unseen Path, values subtlety, patience, and precision.
- Darkness is not absence—it is potential
- Movement is strongest when unnoticed
- Secrets are weapons
- The void is a teacher, not a threat
- One must walk between worlds to understand either
To them, a battle won without being seen is the highest form of mastery.
The Umbral Sanctums
Umbros gather in hidden enclaves called Umbral Sanctums, built in places where shadows naturally pool—abandoned cathedrals, underground caverns, forgotten ruins.
- Shadow Wells — portals to the Umbral Veil
- Veil Chambers — training rooms where light is forbidden
- Echo Corridors — hallways where sound is swallowed
- The Obsidian Archive — void lore etched into black stone
- The Maw Shrine — where initiates commune with the living shadow
Within these sanctums, Umbros learn to navigate both the physical world and the Veil.
Voidwalking
The signature ability of the clan, Voidwalking, is the art of stepping through shadows. It requires stillness of mind, surrender to the void, and awareness of the shadow network around them.
- Short‑range teleportation for novices
- Long‑distance traversal for masters
- Movement through shadow networks
- Silent repositioning in combat
- Dimensional slipping into the Umbral Veil
But the void is hungry—it always takes something in return.
Their Role in Vampire Society
Umbros serve as assassins, scouts, spymasters, and hunters of creatures that hide in darkness. Their presence is often suspected long before it is confirmed.
- Assassins who strike from nowhere
- Scouts who traverse forbidden zones
- Spymasters gathering secrets unseen
- Messengers crossing warfronts instantly
- Wardens of shadow‑tainted relics
- Hunters of darkness‑dwelling creatures
When an Umbros is involved, nothing is ever as it seems.
Philosophy — Power in Absence
Umbros doctrine teaches that power is not always in presence—it is often in absence.
- The unseen strike is the deadliest
- The void reveals what light conceals
- A shadow is a promise of movement
- To walk the void is to embrace uncertainty
They do not seek glory—they seek inevitability.
Reputation Among Other Vampires
Other clans fear Umbros for their unpredictability, respect their precision, distrust their secrecy, and value their unmatched mobility. All agree:
If an Umbros wants you dead, you will never see them coming.
The Curse of the Voidwalkers — Void Bleed
Their flaw is void bleed. Their bodies are not fully anchored in the physical world, causing:
- Flickering visibility
- Difficulty maintaining a stable form
- Emotional detachment
- Sensory distortion
- Risk of being pulled fully into the Umbral Veil
Veterans often appear half‑transparent, their edges dissolving into shadow.
